The acquisition of blogging platform Posterous by Twitter has happened. What was the driver behind this action? Was it a means to cannibalize Posterous’ pool of talent which includes several former Apple iOS Engineers? What will happen to the Prosperous platform?
The official word is that the site will continue, however the number of Posterous bloggers already moving their sites to a new domain continues.
WordPress has seen a tremendous increase in account migrations immediately following the announcement.

How can Twitter assist in your marketing efforts?
My main Twitter account (I have 5 others) @dmwbiz has over 3500 followers. The vast majority of the followers that I have connected with are interested in various internet marketing tools (e.g. Search Engine Optimization).
How did I get that many followers with my type of interest?
By using a technique called spidering to research the type of followers of those I follow. Spidering the people you’re already following identifies a unique group of users that they’re following. The idea is that the people you’re following are interesting to you, so if more than one of them are also following another person, that person might also be interesting.
Go through each person you follow and pull up their list of twitter followers. Peruse as many followers during a few minutes and note the type of websites or tweets they have. Any one of them that has comments about your interest (e.g. Performing Background Checks) will be the ones for you to click “Follow”.
Obviously you need to be following some people of your potential interest(s) for the technique to work. That takes some time and effort by us ing tools such as brand
ing, reading twitter user guides, and in many cases trial and error. More information for me to write about in a later article.

I have been asked a few times what are Twitter ReTweets used for?
Twitter has an automated feature that allows it’s members to forward Tweets to other members. Use it to ReTweet messages from others that you communicate with, and that recommend their followers to follow you. If you ReTweet regular followers’ tweets it will make them feel that you’re reading their updates, and that you care about them.

You may not be aware that unfollowing users in Twitter is one of the best ways to increase followers but doing it aggressively might result in your account getting suspended.
This will instantly waste your efforts.
For newly created accounts, only follow 100-250 per day until reaching 700 followers.
If you want to follow on the 1st day, just follow around 30-70.
After 700 followers, make it 300-500 a day until you reach 1000
Then 400-600 until I reach 2000.
When you have 2000 followers, try to follow 900 – 1000 a day.
Note: Twitter might show a notification about your follow limit even before reaching those numbers because of many other conditions. You cannot follow more than 2000 if you have less than 2000 followers. After reaching 2000 (not exactly 2000, I think its 1820) followers you can then have a following limit 10% more than your number of followers. Until then, you need to unfollow so you can follow more.
Unfollowing Tip
Only unfollow users who don’t follow you back after 2 days and don’t protect mutual followers most of the time so you can follow more people every day.
The idea here is to optimize your network effectively over the long run.
